A man was killed in a shooting on Daniels Avenue in Vallejo early Monday morning, marking the city’s 19th homicide of the year, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting just after 1:30 a.m. near the 500 block of Daniels Avenue. Police found a man dead on the roadway, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, the Vallejo Police Department wrote in a statement Monday. The man was shot in the head, according to dispatch audio.

Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis said in an interview Tuesday that police have made no arrests and have not confirmed a motive. He declined to comment on the nature of the man’s injuries, citing the ongoing investigation.

Parademics declared the man dead at the scene at 1:41 a.m., according to dispatch audio. Hollis told Open Vallejo Wednesday that a Flock Safety gunshot detector alerted police to the shooting. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, according to radio traffic.

The Solano County Coroner’s Office initially withheld the man’s name pending notification of his next of kin. On Tuesday, the office said the case is a protected record and declined to release any information.

Monday’s shooting follows other deadly incidents in Vallejo in recent months that began with a spike in shootings and fatal police pursuits in July and August.

More recently, Stephany Lok Leng Poon was shot while driving at the intersection of Tennessee Street and Mare Island Way, causing her to crash her car on Sept. 6. Eight days later, a man shot and killed a woman in the 300 block of Avian Drive, near where a motorist was shot in the face two days prior.
