A woman was shot and killed Monday in Vallejo, allegedly by a younger male relative, Open Vallejo has learned.

The shooting occurred around 10:50 p.m. in the 300 block of Avian Drive, according to dispatch audio. Vallejo police and fire dispatch began receiving multiple 911 calls from neighbors who reported hearing shots. Then another call came in.

Speaking quietly, a young woman reported that her grandmother had been shot by a man involved with her mother, according to dispatch audio. The call then disconnected. Moments later, a neighbor told a dispatcher they heard someone yelling, “Momma’s dead.”

First responders arrived within five minutes and began CPR on the victim, an “older female” who was shot multiple times in the chest, according to a source with knowledge of the matter. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the unfolding investigation. Neighbors gathered across the street from the scene of the shooting said they heard seven rapid shots.

An ambulance was seen pulling away from the area shortly before the victim’s loved ones arrived. As they exited their vehicles, they began screaming in panic, then grief. First responders reported the case as an “11-44,” the code for when a coroner is required.

The shooting occurred in the same block where two days ago a man was shot in the face while driving.

Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
