The sign also includes smaller text that reads "Greater Vallejo Recreation District." In the background, there is a grassy area with trees and a person playing with a dog in the park. The overall scene suggests a quiet, sunny day in a well-maintained public park.

A man was shot and injured Thursday night in Vallejo, continuing a violent summer that has so far left at least 17 people dead in the city.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. in Richardson Park, according to dispatch audio. A caller reported hearing three to four gunshots, followed by a woman screaming. Soon, dozens of calls began flooding into Vallejo police dispatch to report that a person had been struck by gunfire.

An officer who had “just logged on” at work arrived at the scene first, according to dispatch audio. He located the victim, who had been shot in the groin, and applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

In an interview Friday, Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis said the victim suffered injuries that were not life threatening. Police searched for a suspect but have not made any arrests, he said.
