Sarah Hopkins

Investigative Reporter

Sarah Hopkins is an investigative reporter at Open Vallejo and a 2025–2026 Report for America corps member.

Prior to joining Open Vallejo, Sarah was a reporting fellow at Inside Climate News, where she wrote feature stories on environmental justice. She previously helped produce longform investigative documentaries at FRONTLINE. Before coming to journalism, Sarah spent more than a decade in the public interest legal field, serving as an investigator, writer, and editor. 

Sarah holds a master’s degree in science journalism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was the recipient of the Taylor/Blakeslee University Fellowship and the S. Klein Prize for Scientific Writing for the Public. Prior to MIT, Sarah earned a master’s degree in Literary Studies, with Distinction, from Oxford University, and her bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College.

Raised in a bilingual family in California, Sarah is fluent in Spanish, and a proud graduate of California public schools.
