Two shootings less than four miles apart left two people dead in Vallejo Monday — the city’s ninth and 10th homicides this year.

Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 600 block of Broadway Street around 6:15 p.m., according to the Vallejo Police Department’s daily incident log and dispatch audio. A man told dispatchers he had been shot in the back by an unknown assailant. Officers found the victim alert and conscious. His injuries were not life threatening, Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis said by phone Wednesday.

A few hours later, around 9:30 p.m., police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Amelia Street in the Crest, according to public records. A caller told police that her friend and a second person had been shot.

“We have one that’s alert, we have one that’s not alert,” an officer reported. “We only have pulse on one of the victims.”

Medical first responders pronounced one victim dead at the scene, according to a Vallejo Police Department press release. A second victim died at a local hospital.

The Solano County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as George Maddox IV, 43, and Vallejo resident Sean White, 43.

Police have made no arrests in connection with either shooting, Hollis told Open Vallejo.
