Vallejo police are investigating the city’s eighth homicide of the year, after a woman was found with at least one gunshot wound early Saturday morning.

At approximately 1:36 a.m., Vallejo firefighters responded to a report of a possible overdose at 433 Admiral Callaghan Way, according to dispatch audio. Before their arrival, a dispatcher notified firefighters that the woman was bleeding out her nose and foaming at the mouth. A Vallejo police press release noted that she suffered from at least one gunshot wound, and died at a local hospital later that day.

The Solano County Coroner’s office identified the woman as Courtney Whitney, a 45-year-old Vallejo resident. An online fundraiser for her funeral expenses has raised more than $9,000.

Police have made no arrests in the case, according to Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis.

The homicide underscored a busy night for Vallejo first responders dealing with Independence Day celebrations. Public records detail back-to-back reports of fireworks, gunshot detection alerts and noise complaints. Around the same time the homicide was called in, police were clearing major downtown intersections, including a sideshow at the intersection of Tennessee Street and Mare Island Way.
