Vallejo police are investigating a suspected arson after a motor home was set ablaze Saturday morning, sending one person to the hospital.

At approximately 6:12 a.m., Vallejo firefighters responded to a report of black smoke coming from under the I-80 overpass off Lincoln Road East, according to public records. Dispatchers received a report that an RV was on fire, and that an individual in the motor home had escaped with burns, according to dispatch audio.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with a Code 3 designation, according to dispatch audio, indicating serious injuries. Police have made no arrests, Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis told Open Vallejo in an interview Wednesday.

Vallejo resident Jay Solanki told Open Vallejo he heard two or three loud booms coming from the overpass area around 6:30 a.m. Solanki, who owns and operates the nearby Solano Inn, posted a video to NextDoor of massive flames overtaking the RV and thick black smoke enveloping the road above.

That stretch of Lincoln Road East has 11 open public works requests related to camping, smoke and abandoned vehicles, according to the city’s SeeClickFix website. Solanki estimated that at the time of the fire, there had been 10 vehicles parked along the underpass.

The victim’s identity and the extent of their injuries were not immediately known.
