A man suspected of shooting a woman in Vallejo last year has been extradited to the U.S. from Mexico, Vallejo police announced Friday.
One June 9, 2024, Vallejo police responded to a shooting on the 1300 block of Alabama Street where they found a woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to a department press release. The victim, who was treated at a local hospital and survived the encounter identified the suspect as 41-year-old Hector Placencia-Gazmuri, police said.
Placencia-Gazmuri was apprehended in Mexico and extradited in April, according to Vallejo police. He was booked into Martinez Detention Facility in Contra Costa County on April 11 on several charges unrelated to last year’s shooting, including assault, kidnapping and multiple alleged hit and runs, according to jail records. Placencia-Gazmuri will be transported to Solano County Jail to face charges of attempted murder and kidnapping, according to police.
It is not clear if Placencia-Gazmuri has retained legal representation, according to court records.
In March 2024, Solano County prosecutors charged Placencia-Gazmuri with assault with a deadly weapon, corporal injury on a spouse and violation of a stay-away order, according to court records.
