A Cricket Wireless store in a small shopping plaza is seen on a sunny day. The storefront displays promotional signs for 5G service and a free Samsung Galaxy phone. An A-frame sign reading “FREE” is positioned on the sidewalk in front. Part of a neighboring business is visible on the left, and a large shrub partially obscures the right side of the frame.

Vallejo police have arrested a man in connection with the city’s third homicide of the year.

Police identified Manuel Martinez as the suspect in the deadly April 15 stabbing, according to a Vallejo police press release. The Solano County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 48-year-old Tomas Garcia-Reyes, a resident of Vallejo. Garcia-Reyes was initially standing and talking when first responders arrived on the scene, but fell unconscious minutes later, according to dispatch audio. He died at a local hospital.

Detectives, who had identified Martinez as a suspect, were investigating the crime scene at the 2800 block of Redwood Parkway on April 17 when they noticed him walking in the “immediate area,” according to police. In an interview Wednesday, police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis declined to provide additional details about the incident. Detectives notified Vallejo patrol officers, who arrested the 31-year-old without incident, according to the press release.

Martinez is being held without bail at the Solano County jail on one count of murder, as well as robbery and conspiracy charges related to an outstanding warrant in Napa County, according to jail records. He is currently represented by the Solano County Public Defender’s office, according to court records. A spokesperson for the office said Martinez has not yet been assigned an attorney.

Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis did not respond to a request for comment.
