Vallejo police are investigating a fatal shooting on Valentine’s Day, the city’s second homicide of the year.

At approximately 11:57 p.m., police responded to a report that a man shot at a woman on the 400 block of Sheldon Avenue, according to police. Officers arrived within five minutes of the initial call and began CPR on the woman, who was lying in the driveway of a house, according to dispatch audio. A 911 caller reported that they saw the shooter sitting in a dark sedan just after the incident, but the individual fled before police arrived.

Medical personnel were delayed in accessing the scene because police had not yet cleared the house, according to dispatch audio. The woman, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest, died at the scene.

Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis did not respond to a request for comment.

The Solano County Coroner’s Office declined to name the victim, citing the ongoing investigation by Vallejo police. Vallejo police also declined to name the victim, citing the coroner’s need to notify her next of kin.

Gun violence in Vallejo has left at least 10 individuals injured since the start of the year, including a 4-year-old girl in the Crest neighborhood and two Cal Maritime students caught in a drive-by shooting near downtown Vallejo.
