A shooting near downtown Vallejo left two Cal Maritime students injured Tuesday evening, university chief of staff Karyn Cornell told Open Vallejo.
At approximately 7:31 p.m., police responded to a report of a shootout near the intersection of Tennessee Street and Sonoma Boulevard, according to public records. At least one caller alerted police that occupants of a white Mercedes and blue Impala were shooting at each other, and that a man was screaming that he had been shot.
Upon arrival, first responders found two victims. One was shot in the neck, and one was shot in the face, according to dispatch audio. Police were also advised that an occupant of the Mercedes may have also been shot, but Vallejo spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis said police could not confirm that a third person had been struck by gunfire. Cornell said the injured students were innocent bystanders.
The two victims were treated for injuries that were not life threatening, Hollis told Open Vallejo. Police have made no arrests.
“The Vallejo Police Department continues to call on the community for any information that may aid in the investigation regarding this senseless shooting,” Hollis said.
