Vallejo police are investigating a shooting that occurred near the headquarters of Vallejo’s police union Thursday morning.
At approximately 11:47 a.m., police received a report that a man had been shot, and struck by a white Ford Ranger pickup truck with a lumber rack, on the 1100 block of Colusa Street, according to dispatch audio. The truck fled before officers arrived. A California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted in the search, but police were unable to locate the vehicle.
The victim, who reportedly did not want to cooperate with police, was transported to a local hospital. Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis said the victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening.
Nearly two hours later, and a mile and a half away, a man walked into Hertz Car Rental on Redwood Street and told workers he had been shot, according to dispatch audio. The man, however, would not say who had shot him. Police said his injuries did not appear life threatening, according to dispatch audio.
On Jan. 15, local leaders held a press conference addressing Vallejo’s wave of gun violence, announcing new efforts to combat violent crime. The announcement was in response to a shooting in Vallejo’s Crest neighborhood that left a 4-year-old hospitalized. On Tuesday, two Cal Maritime students were injured by crossfire in a shootout near Sonoma Boulevard and Tennessee Street.
Thursday’s shootings mark four gun-related injuries in the city within 48 hours.
