A pickup truck crashed through an office building associated with the family of a Vallejo police officer Saturday.

Vallejo police responded to a report of a traffic collision into a building near Tennessee Street and Admiral Callaghan Lane at approximately 12:25 p.m. on Dec. 8. Officers found a red Ford pickup truck rammed halfway through the lobby of the Petrie Center, an unassuming one-story suite that lists several medical offices on a handmade wooden sign outside. The office previously housed a chiropractic practice operated by Roger Petrie, a Vallejo native, who died in 2015

Petrie’s son Nicholas is a Vallejo police officer. Hired in 2022, he regularly works with the department’s Traffic Division. He declined to comment for this article.

The building owner could not immediately be reached for comment.

The interior of the Petrie Center building is shown, with significant damage to the walls, furniture, and belongings. Rubble and broken beams are scattered across the floor.

There were no reported injuries from the crash. A person working at the destroyed office Saturday told Open Vallejo they left to go to the bank and had nearly returned when the truck hit the building. The office next door, Vallejo Family Dentistry, is closed on the weekends, according to its website.

An open bottle of alcohol was seen on the roof of the truck after the crash. However, officers did not suspect the driver of being under the influence, Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis said in an interview Friday. The driver was cited for driving without a license, a misdemeanor.

“He wasn’t suspected of being impaired, just bad driving,” Hollis said.

There have been 688 traffic collisions this year as of October, according to the most recent Vallejo police data. In 2023, there were 870 reported traffic collisions.

A previous version of this story erroneously stated that Roger Petrie died in 2018. He died in 2015.
