A man was wounded by gunfire Sunday in the 2000 block of Sonoma Boulevard in Vallejo, an area that has experienced multiple shootings and deadly crashes in recent weeks.
The shooting occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Aug. 4, according to dispatch audio. Vallejo police received reports of between eight and 10 gunshots, followed by the sound of vehicles driving away. Soon after, the victim called 911 and informed a dispatcher that he had been shot in the leg.
Officers arrived within minutes and cleared medics to enter the scene soon after. First responders applied a tourniquet and transported the man to NorthBay Medical Center.
On July 24, 34-year-old Damien Davis was fatally shot in the back directly across the street from the scene of Sunday’s shooting. Additionally, a man was injured by rifle fire a block away on July 12; his condition remains unknown. Two people died and at least six others were injured last month in collisions within a half-mile of the same intersection as Vallejo police pursued fleeing drivers at high speeds.
Vallejo police have not identified any of the victims involved in the recent shootings or collisions. Department spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis declined to comment for this article.
The condition of Sunday’s shooting victim remains unknown. A man who was shot in the leg on August 1 died two days later, marking the city’s 15th homicide of 2024.
