Vallejo police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with a fatal daytime shooting at a busy intersection in July, the Vallejo Police Department announced Tuesday.

Vallejo resident Bruce Davis was arrested Sept. 19 on suspicion of murder and booked into Solano County Jail, according to a department press release. Davis is represented by the Solano County Public Defender’s Office, which was not immediately available for comment.

Officials did not provide a motive for the shooting or release the victim’s name.

Police responded to a shooting near the intersection of Tennessee and Humboldt streets around noon on July 5, where they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to police and dispatch audio. First responders gave the man CPR and transported him to the hospital, where he died.

SWAT teams from the Vallejo Police Department and Solano County Sheriff’s Office conducted raids in Vallejo and Fairfield with assistance from the Fairfield Police Department, taking Davis into custody without incident, according to police.

The fatal July shooting marked Vallejo’s 10th homicide of 2024, according to police. That number has since climbed to 18.

Since July, at least five motorists have been shot — or shot at — along Tennessee Street, elevating safety concerns about the major thoroughfare, which runs from west to east through the city. The victims include a man who was shot in the face while driving on Sept. 14, a woman who was killed in a collision while fleeing a shooting on July 16, and two Vallejo police officers whose patrol vehicle was struck by rifle fire on Aug. 17.

In an interview Tuesday, Vallejo police spokesperson Sgt. Rashad Hollis said the July 5 shooting was an isolated incident.

“It had nothing to do with the selected area,” Hollis said. “It’s not like it’s considered gang territory.”
